South and South East Asian Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) got underway in Kunming,Yunnan, China a few days back, with a spectacular opening ceremony that befits an occasion that seems to be getting bigger each successive year.
Pakistan was the theme country for the Expo fair this year.
This year’s Expo is different from many others due to a variety of new innovations, which are so much set apart from those of previous years, that the Executive organizing committee calls the Expo a new brand.
Pakistan, a key player in President Xi Jingping’s One Belt One Road Initiative, has brought all they can in terms of geopolitical gravitas to the whole show, with a large number of stalls.
The Rajpal Abeynayake Column

This column was written by the author for a English language weekly some years back, when the problems with dogs and stray dogs was not of the life and death variety. In the present time dogs are under threat of elimination on a mass scale, because the authorities have decided their time is up.
